A Glimpse into my art

My artistic exploration brings me time and again to the human body. The body manifests our human condition, and since all bodies are shaped by the conditions we live in and have been oppressed by (from natural forces to political forces), consider my work political.

Visual art at times creates an illusion of cognitive fireworks that does not involve the sensual living body in the present moment. However, the artistic object does not exist without a human body that collects

the sensual signals contained in it and transforms them into meaning.  In my work I often try to create situations that would intrigue or provoke the body: my own body and that of the viewer, to be present.

In most of my works the body figures either directly or indirectly, echoing and intensifying the viewer’s own physical presence. At times I feel that I am using the body as an adhesive: it is the viewer who will collate the bodily experience and the cognitive - cultural experience contained in the work.

As in a shamanic healing journey that tries to retrieve bodily experiences that have been left somewhere along the path and bring them into the present body,  my work tries to integrate stories and images that belong to our body but have been split off from our biography or our culture.
